Pratibha Devisingh Patil (प्रतिभा पाटील) (born December 19, 1934) is an Indian Congress (I) politician, and the 16th Governor of the Rajasthan state. She has served as the deputy chairperson of Rajya Sabha (India's upper house of parliament) and as a Member of Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra from 1962 to 1985.
Pratibha Patil is Rajasthan's first female governor, and also currently the only female state governor in India. She is the candidate of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and the Indian left for the Indian Presidential Election to be held in July 2007.

Brief biography
Pratibha Patil was born to Narayan Rao in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. She did her M.A. from M.J. College, Jalgaon, and obtained a Law Degree from the Government Law College, Mumbai. During her college days, she won shields in inter-college table tennis tournaments.[1].
She married Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat July 7, 1965. The couple has one son and one daughter. Before joining politics, she served as a social worker, and also practised as an advocate at Jalgaon.
Politics career
Pratibha Patil has served as the as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly during 1962-85. She has also served as a Member of Parliament in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. She was a member of the Rajya Sabha from July 5 1985 to April 2 1990 and a member of the 10th Lok Sabha during 1991-96.[2].
